The Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) is responsible for safe, accurate computerized treatment planning and radiation dose calculations for the treatment of cancerous and benign diseases.
The CMD is responsible for:Interpreting and implementing the treatment prescription prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist;Assisting the Radiation Oncologist in the operating room for selected brachytherapy cases;Handling radioactive sources as outlined by the radiation protection program;Coordinates treatment machine and simulator service;Performs calibrations on dosimetry equipment (electrometers, survey meters and ion chambers);Participating in the Quality Assurance Program to help ensure a safe environment for patients and staff;The CMD ensures compliance with NC State and other regulatory requirements for the radiation protection program and ensures all requirements are complete. The CMD schedules and coordinates Radiation Safety Meetings, as well as coordinating State inspections. The CMD advises the practice manager on equipment service contracts, repairs and purchases. 
The CMD performs appropriate administrative duties and participates in educational programs. Administrative duties include inputting dosimetry charges for procedure performed; weekly dosimetry chart checks for quality assurance; weekly review of technical charges billed to ensure accuracy; and maintaining the radioactive materials safe inventory log.
The CMD supervises radiation therapy technologists and simulator personnel on treatment related issues.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: The Medical Dosimetrist must have appropriate training and education to qualify to take the National Dosimetry Certification Boards for Medical Dosimetry.
License/Certification: Current ARRT registry in Radiation Therapy or possess a B.S. degree in physics or comparable. American Heart Association Basic Life Safety certification obtained upon hire and maintained thereafter.
Experience: Two years experience as a medical dosimetrist is preferred but not required. Experience with Aria, Eclipse and Truebeam Accelerator is required. Experience with Velocity is desired. 
SKILLS: Those gained from successful completion of a Medical Dosimetry training Program or documented two years training under a physician and medical physicist.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Physically, the medical dosimetrist is required to assist in moving and lifting patients, transferring patients from wheelchair or stretcher to the treatment table or exam table. He\She must be able to stand for long periods, to bend and stoop and to reach above shoulder height. Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs.
